  • We are in the wonderful Hosford-Abernathy neighborhood outside of Ladd’s Addition. You know the “Banana Building” on SE 12th & Division Street? That’s us!

  • Yes! We have a small parking lot and all street parking is free! Be careful getting lost in the maze of Ladd’s though.

  • We offer an array of hair services such as hair coloring, all hair cutting from curly hair to pixies, clipper fades, perms, and smoothing and conditioning treatments. Not all of our stylists offer the same services, so check our online booking to see which amazing stylist can give you that body perm.

Invoke Salon does not offer any non-hair related services.

  • We offer gender neutral services at Invoke. Why would we call it a men’s cut with so many amazing short styles on all genders?! And vice versa: anyone can wear a tousled, low-maintenance shag!

Scissor Cuts are any haircut using a combination of scissors or razor techniques.

Clipper Cuts are short cuts using electric clippers to shave off excess length through the back and sides for tapered looks and pixies.

Deva Curl Cuts are a specialized system for cutting and styling curly hair to increase curl definition and shape.

  • Yes. Hair color is much freer of harsh chemicals now so for the best grey coverage and lift you need to arrive with clean hair to your appointment.

While our Scissor Cut appointments come with a full shampoo and blowout, if it has been more than a couple days since your last wash it is best to shampoo prior to your appointment so that natural texture and hair fall is visible.

For Dry Cuts, you must come to your appointment with freshly washed hair and no styling products applied. Besides maybe a leave in conditioner of smoothing crème to reduce frizz.

  • This totally depends on your level of desired upkeep! But typically;

Clipper cut above the ears will start reaching the ear in 3-5 weeks.

Precision bobs will hit the shoulders or lose their shape in 6-8 weeks.

Long layers will grow out, and weight will fill back in at about 10-12 weeks.

  • Detangling brushes are incredible to keep in the shower to use with conditioner for complete distribution of product, damage free detangling and scalp exfoliation! Everyone should have one!

Paddle brushes are ideal for general, gentle hair brushing needs.

Round brushes are designed for smooth styling and volume. They are very helpful for styling bangs and face framing.

Blow dryer brushes have highly evolved since the early aughts and are the most valuable home hairstyling tool out there now!

  • Balayage (ball-a-auge) is a French word for “hand painted”. This technique was developed to mimic the natural highlighting from sun exposure, giving that sun-kissed look. After years of refining, balayage is now the trend of “Lived-in Blonding”. There are many techniques your stylist could use to give you a low maintenance / rooted / natural looking blonding session. These can range from Foil-age, where we use foils to generate heat to offer lighter levels of blonde. Or actual hand-painting with clay lighteners for those soft sun-kissed highlights.

Highlights are applied to sections of hair in foils to produce an all-over blonde appearance or lightening of natural hair color. Highlights go up to your scalp and have more maintenance tied to them, as you will see the line of demarcation after 6-8 weeks of hair growth.

  • There are many factors in reduced hair density, and hairstylists are not doctors so if you are very concerned it is always best to check with a physician. But here are some causes as stylist are trained trichologist.

    1. Male pattern baldness (androgenetic alopecia) occurs when the hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT) chokes out the hair follicle causing it to no longer produce hair. Treatments like Rogain and Nioxin keep the follicle clear of DHT to help support continued hair growth, but once you start use you must continue to keep DHT clear from the scalp. Cis women will also find as we age and lose estrogen our testosterone levels increase and will also start to produce DHT.

We carry Cult + King’s hair Tonik that has a botanical blend to maintain scalp health and keep follicles clear.

    2. Extreme weight loss and Stress. With food restricted diets, such as Keto, and the rise of GLP-1s we are seeing a very large increase in hair loss. As best we can its important to eat a balanced diet of as many essential minerals and ammino acids as we can naturally and supplementarily get. When our bodies go through extreme stress (Covid also hit follicles very hard) hair loss is one of the first physical reactions. Hair is dead filament growing from our follicles, produced by the remaining cells after our bodies use the protein we eat and when we restrict our intake there are not enough nutrients to support keratin production.

Stress… stress is hard on every organ in our bodies, and hair is non-essential so it looses energy contribution first. Breathing techniques, fresh air, trees, meditation and community can all contribute to stress relief. Also, great hair. That can really reduce daily stress and frustration! ; )

  • Surprisingly, lightening is not the harshest service for our hair. Heat styling actually creates the most damage. Hot tools such as flat irons and curling irons should never go above 360 degrees, with fine hair starting around 320 degrees, and NEVER used without a heat protectant.

For blow drying you need to use a blowout crème, styling mousse or spray on towel dried hair. At Invoke We love Keune’s styling mousses and blow out cremes. Even their curl styling products have heat protection! We also carry a great blowout crème from Joico and a whole line of reparative CBD infused heat styling sprays from Leaf + Flower!

Hot tool styling needs to be protected with an aerosol spray that leaves a dry finish. ANY amount of moister in your hair touched by a curling iron or flat iron will create a steam bubble in the hair shaft that will rupture and split, causing breakage. At the salon we have a very lightweight efficient aerosol spray from Joico.
